quote: sometimes it is necessary to challenge what people in authority claim to be true. although some respect for authority is, no doubt, necessary for any group or organization to function, questioning the people in charge - even if the are experts or leaders in their fields - makes us better thinkers. it forces all concerned to defend old ideas and decisions and to consider new ones. sometimes it can even correct old errors in thought and put an end to wrong actions

assignment: is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

it is important to question the ideas of people in positions of authority. without challenging their ideas and actions, society would follow the leaders, creating a quasi-dictatorship. if the leaders aren't questioned, we will head in one direction, and we wouldn't advance quickly.

Many times have people questioned leaders. kings and queens of Europe often oppressed their people because their rule was questioned. King Louis XIV of France said "l'etat est moi," or in english, "I am the state." moreover, In George Orwell's book, "Animal Farm," the leaders were pigs who ran the farm, making it corrupt in ways so that only they could benefit from, while leaving other animals to cluelessly do their bidding. Nobody spoke out against the Pigs, and the Farm became a corrupt dictatorship under a communist form of government.

Without the questioning of people, governments and people of high importance and power often become corrupt. there is nobody to stop them, and so they do as they wish. Again, in the book "Animal Farm," the pigs indulged in human foods and possessions, such as alcohol and beds, while the rest of the farm animals had to work and squander in the dirt. the pigs would grow fat and old, as the other animals became ill and died quickly. In Machiavelli's "the prince," he states many ways in which a king can stay in power and keep his subjects loyal. most of these ways are corrupt, and often hurt somebody. he states "The ends justify the means," showing that if you do things in an evil or corrupt way, it is good. this is not the case, as it shows a principal of corruption, or "do what you want."

Conclusively, the ideas of people in power should be questioned. this is because not questioning them can lead to corruption and can limit opportunities. If our leaders were not questioned, we would not be where we are today.
