True the above. We have testing centers here where you can go and take tests. You can be sitting in a room and have students taking the GRE, LSAT, GMAT, etc.
Our state testing has all gone computerized.
However, because each HS testing center has many students taking the test…there would have to be a guarantee from the sponsoring school that enough secure computers were available for all to use. And enough proctors as well if these computers are in separate rooms.
There are test schools around here that have stopped administering the SAT and ACT because they can’t get proctors for the exams.
its federal copyright law that cc is looking out for… Federal law and most online sources allow the copy and paste of a snippet of articles – incl. source/citing – without obtaining prior permission.
Completed ACT Explore exams were ‘lost in the mail’ at our middle school and students had to retake months later when it was determined scores were never coming out… I called ACT to inquire about this. I was told that a pre-paid FEDEX pouch comes with the test booklets and the generally barring a FEDEX plane crash, the ONLY way this happens is when the school mistakenly drops off the pouch of exams at a U.S. Post Office where it is thrown away for insufficient postage.
One has to wonder how someone like that Vinay stays in business if he shares such moronic statements! Why would student given the chance for a mulligan lose their “preparation?” One does not build up stamina or lose it like it were an Olympic preparation! One is either ready or not. In theory, taking the test again should benefit the student because of increased familiarity. Since all tests are normalized, the date of the administration does not matter … nor do the preparation for finals in HS. Different beasts altogether.

I cannot agree more. I saw those comments in the story and didn’t go on to post those --because of CC’s posting policy (I didn’t know how much is too much). How the heck could he be such a seer that he could say that “it’s not going to go as well as it could have.” Talk about reading tea-leaves.
Look, if students are well-prepared to read critically, have sufficient vocabulary to master the test, and have been taught correct strategies, they should do approximately as well on most sittings, but there is a range, it is true. The point is that a new sitting can also favor a student because for that student the reading passages may be more “user-friendly” and the essay prompt may also be.
Clearly Vinay is a wily and savvy business owner and marketer. Note that he offered a “refresher” course for those students who had to retake the test. What better way to get more people enrolled than to scare them into thinking that they are stale and need to prepare more - with his help of course!
