Hi guys I’m a new member of this site and I was wondering if someone could help me. OK so for irregular verb how do you determine the perfect tense for each verb? So for example, I had run or I had ran. I know I had run is correct but how?? Ran and run sound completely fine to me. And is there a method to determine the perfect tense? Thanks CC community I would love your help.

An example of what you’re trying to fix or learn would be helpful.
It really depends on the sentence.
Dawn had just _____, and the floor was cold under my feet. (The word is broke).
For this sentence the correct answer is broken but broke sounds correct as well. How do I determine the past perfect tense?
Irregular verbs must be memorized. That’s it. For every pattern you discover, their will be more exceptions than matches. It’s best that you get a list of irregular verbs and learn them 10 at a time, without trying to make sense of them.
Oh ok thank you.
Yep ^^. You just have to memorize that “had broken” is correct, and that “had broke” is not.
Aww man that’s a lot of memorizing but I’ll do it for sure! Thanks
