SAT I: Summer Studiers Thread

Hey. I wanted to know if anyone here is studing for the October SAT I during the summer. If so, what are you using, and how is it going? Thanks!

Definitely. My parents forced me to do Kaplan and it has been pretty good. I use the Blue Book and Kaplan Books.

SAT vocab novel to learn 1000 sat words…its painless

I’m using a combination of PR and Kaplans

Wow, I wish I had had that motivation to study Verbal…

Heh…

:)

HAHA! I’m done with SATs. (But then again, I’ve probably practiced much more than any person on this board already).

How many hours a day do you guys study/practice?

3 hours a day at the school’s PSAT class. I do a little at home, but I obviously need to do more.

I hate that SAT novel. I have the Vampire Dreams one. People give me weird looks. Haha.

Probably a lot… Just because most of the parents of the kids on this board force their children to study and get good grades… In fact, I have a friend named Evan, and, to be honest, he isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed… His parents have quite a bit of money because his dad’s the president of a local bank. Anyway, they try to make him get good grades, but he can’t do it… Even with hours of studying… So what do they do? They hire kids to help him cheat… His quarter grades are like A’s, but on his semester exams he only scores around 40% …So, when each quarter grade is worth like 40% and the semester exam is worth 20%, his final semester grades that go on his transcript are B’s. Once he got all exited because he took an IQ test and scored like an 85 and thought that that was in the genius category. What’s he going to do in college? :frowning: I felt bad b/c all of my final exam grades were 96%+ . So I just said , “Eh… I did pretty well.” In fact, people around here (my town) don’t even know I have perfect grades… Anyway… Even though that got a little off topic… I don’t study much… Maybe 1/2 hour each day… I need to do more of it, though. Now that I only have a little over a month before schools starts, I’m going to start trying to study for at least 3+ hours each day… i wouldn’t even call it studying, but reviewing… I just take the practice tests, keep a journal to write down the questions I got wrong, and come up with my own solution for the problem so I won’t f*** up again in the future. Then, about 2 weeks before the exam, I plan to review this journal of mine.

I will go trough rocketreview and refresh my vocab skills with barrons

Oh, let me tell you how its going so far. I feel good about my Wr. My Cr could use some work. My math isn’t as bad as I make it out to be. Its only because I’ve been coming to the CC where you guys use algebra and what not to answer SAT question. I on the other hand start the problem and don’t know how to finish. So I PLUG IN the answers and get the correct answers. The only way I miss the math questions is if I didn’t know how to start it in the first place.

So right now, I’m making note cards of things I need to remember most for myself. I’ll continue working on Wr so i can get a 700+ on it. I am studying vocabulary so I can make 650-700+ and all that will hopefully make up for the 600-650 I’m bound to make in Math.

And then I remember the Texas cutoff is 216 and I give a deep sigh of anguish…

i have the Vampire Dreams one too…horrible story line…but its better than staring at flashcards while watching TRL

The secret Formula for me: Wordsmart + CB blue book + RocketReview

Wow, a lot of people have that book. I think the book’s too short…

Are you guys talking about Princeton Review’s Word Smart? If so, what edition? Also, how highly recommended is this book?

Well Im using The College Board Blue Book along with Testmasters solutions, Grubers, Grammatix, and Rocketreview.

How are those solutions? I just purchased the book…

As a matter of fact, if you don’t mind, can you tell me your opinion on all of those books?

I am using the CB Blue Book (which I had finished nearly all of before the May SAT), 10 Real SATs, Rocket Review, Maximum SAT, and Gruber’s. I will also get the CB online course to get access to more official tests, and I will somehow acquire the March SAT. I intend to get WordSmart and Grammatix and maybe the TestMasters Solution book.

Can someone give a short review of Word Smart and the testMasters Solution book?

All of this review is overkill since I already have a 2280. But since I am taking it again, I might as well make sure I am fully prepared so my score does increase, or the whole thing will be a huge waste.
