I have a daughter who is a junior. Every thing was going smoothly until this year…she has great grades, does athletics, community service, but we are poor as dirt (husband retired, I am a teacher) and it is crunch time. So here are my questions, do I want schools to receive her first SAT scores or not? What the heck are ACTs? Do colleges want them or are SAT’s sufficient? To be honest I am not sure if she even knows what college she wants to go to.

First of all, you posted this in the wrong sub-forum. But that’s cool.

A person either takes the SAT or the ACT depending on which one he thinks he can do better on or which one is more popular in the area where the person lives. Colleges require only one of them but sometimes over-efficient students take both. If your daughter is sure about which colleges she wants to go and knows that she can get a good score then sure, go ahead, send it to them. Otherwise you can always send your score to colleges later when applying to them.

I see no harm in sending your daughter’s first SAT scores to colleges. It’s not like they’ll hold your first score against you if you do badly.
