sat ii chinese vs. hsk

which one’s harder…

hsk is the han yu sua ping test…

i have no idea

han yu suai ping

“Hanyu shuiping” is the correct spelling, other than quibbles about capitalization and word division.

lol. yay pinyin and the controversy.
Well, here’s what I’ve heard:
For SAT II Chinese, it seems to have a really steep curve, like if you get barely a few questions wrong, your percentile will not be a pretty sight. But if you’re very fluent, then it should be pretty easy. Just watch out for careless errors? HSK is harder (well, I guess it depends on which level). My friend took the HSK and ended up qualifying for/going to their summer program, which she enjoyed a lot. If that is a consideration at all for you.

Hope that helped?

does anyone know if they have sat ii chinese prep books…i know they have other sat ii prep books for other languages but i couldn’t find any for chinese…any know? thanks

I took the HSK test, but I don’t plan on taking SATII Chinese. I’ve seen some problems for the SATII and can say that HSK is harder. The easiest of the three levels is harder than the SATII. And the third level, even fluent people would think that it’s challenging. But yes, the SATII has a crazy curve. 800 is like the 60th percentile.

Oh, I went to the summer program for HSK too. The first year. Had a great time, even though some of the classes were silly.
I remember the geography teacher saying one time (in Chinese) “On the map, green means land. And blue means sea.”

A book by the Long-Win company has been produced; it contains 5 practice SAT II Chinese exams. Preparing for HSK is slightly different; a good combination to do so is the Reading/Writing Chinese book (Simplified Edition) by William McNaughton and the Schaum’s outline book for grammar. If you can understand it, the Routledge book is even better, but contains a pile of educated jargon.

kman would you kindly tell me the title of the book by Long win? I have searched through amazon but could not find it. thank you
