SAT II World History Specific Minor Names and Cities

Would we need to know the specific minor cities and people. I’m not talking about people such as Ikhnaton or cities such as Ur. I mean like cities such as Harrappa and Monhenjo-Daro and people such as Thucydides. Very little information is given about them in the Barron book but just knowing someone has the name confuses me while trying to memorize all the people along with their achievements. Should I just study the important ones and ignore the names, not the achievements, of the people and cities?

Example:

Thales made strides in astronomy

or

Hellenistic Greeks made strides in astronomy

I think that you pretty much have to KNOW everything!

I think that it’s better to know the famous people and their achievements better than all the names and not their achievements. But, with that being said I’d recommend knowing as many names as you can because there always will be nitpicky details and obscure people on the exam. I suppose it also depends on who you define as important as well. I would personally consider someone like Galen or Herodotus or Thucydides, but not so much Akhenaton.
