SAT IIs after gap year(s)

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I was forced into taking an unanticipated gap year for the 2010-2011 academic year instead of going to college. That’s an entire year with no formal academic instruction following my graduation from high school. Now that I’m looking to apply to college this fall, I’m wondering if I should take some SAT II subject tests. My concerns are that I’ll perform poorly on the subject tests after a year without being in school and I’ll be wasting money/time.

Also, some things worth noting:
• I received a 2020 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT
• I’ll be a foreign language major
• I took 5 AP tests, passed 4 of them, and received a 5 on one (a foreign language)
• I would like to apply to some fairly selective schools
• I’ve never applied to college before

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Frostbyte38, Don’t worry because SAT II isn’t that difficult. Pick any reasonable book and study the hell out of it and it would all be okay.

If it makes you feel any better, I’d like to share about myself. I passed out of highschool in 2007, five years ago. I am applying to college this year and it would be my first time too. And, I don’t find the SAT II to be much difficult.

Only thing different in my case has been that I have tutored around 100 kids in last 3 years and this job has kept me academically alive.
