I don’t know how much effective will this be to you but it was certainly a most effecctive technique I have applied and I got 2350 in my recent SAT test held on Oct. Thus I am confident it may be useful to you. SAT is the puzzle game set by some of expedite ETS employees therefore it involves different kinds of tricks to make us fall in it. Until we are unable to find the tricks that ETS has set for we cannot overcome or be cautious about the problem.
Now the most irritating part of SAT is the critical reading section, mainly boring passages. It is boring and irritating until we are unknown about thetraps and tricks to tackle them. long passages are designed in such the way that you donot have time and you have more questions than minutes. Lose hope and you fell the trap set by SAT. And in my general experience I have found the short passages more troublesome than long passages because we mainly go from top to bottom, short passage comes before long passage. You get your head revolving in hard short passage questions , time to be given for comfortable long questions.
Long passage is formated in the way past questions have been formated and there the definite types of questions one can guess. Experienced book writers are able to predict them though we cannot predict questions we can follow formatting and the patterns. Once we have figured out questions to be asked we must learn the way to attack them. I had developed separate sub strategies to attack them.
Main idea questions was worrisome. Can’t figure out anything. I couldn’t figure out what was detail and what was main idea. Then, I developed the strategy to conquer them.
Graphical representation of 4 main main factors of understanding passage and attack them in limited time. Comprehension, time management, skimming and identification of central idea and supporting details. I practiced about 50 passages for each of factors, scored them at the of 0-4 and plotted the difference between previous paragraph and following paragraph though it was satisfying improvement from first to the second but considerable diffrence between initial paragraph plotting to the final paragraph plotting. I gave about ten minutes to each wrong questions though it was painful to follow I was too certain because “If there no pain there no gain”. Excuses were strictly prohibited because same is going to be repeated in actual SAT test.I analysed the improvement in the graph everyday day no expected improvement I paniced. And I used to repeat the quotation of Wiston Churchill"Success lies in moving from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm".
I basically attacked the long passage by skimming purpose of passage attacked purpose, main ideas questions first and detail questions second and function question. At last inference questions with much more strategy. O n real SAT test I finised passage based questions in 15 minutes and rest of my time double checking questions.
My principle is never give up. We give up because we we can’t figure out how near we were to success before we gave up. Though this wasnot my best score, I wouldnot have gotten this much also, if I had given up. I should have gotten extra 100 for my hard work rather SAT punishes by negetive marking. IT’s ALL ABOUT HARD WORK. Though we are searching for some formula we can’t grt them until we work and find them. I was also victim of some formulas to attack but cannot find rater I wasted my such valuable time I swear you, if you are looking for for such thing you will never find out.I
Your post is full of misspelled words and bad grammar (“Main idea questions was worrisome”). I think people might pay more attention if you removed them, especially in the context of SAT prep.
This post is a bit cluttered and hard to follow but I appreciate that you’ve gone out of your way to write this. You said you got a 2350 on the Oct. test but scores haven’t been released yet so how do you know?
