SAT Invalidation Question/Help

Hello, I need some advice.

I took the SAT yesterday, Saturday, November 5th, 2011. My high school was offering it that day so I registered for that to be my test center. My father is a teacher there and had signed up to be one of the instructors of the test. Coincidentally, I ended up being in his room. I knew something wouldn’t be right and I guess the head guidance counselor had the same feeling I did, and she removed my dad from the room and she administered the test for our room. My father monitored the hall way throughout the test.

As you all probably would have guessed, the head guidance counselor called Collegeboard this morning to double check and make sure that it was alright that my father was in the same building as I. Evidently, it wasn’t and they told her my test was invalidated. My dad then called me to let me know.

I was ****ed. I still am, actually. One of my schools that I applied for was the University of Florida, and they have made it clear that any SAT/ACT scores need to be submitted before the 1st of December. Had my SAT score not been invalidated, my scores would be available on the 22nd of this month, thus giving me time to submit it to UF and any private scholarships due before December. I already have taken the SAT, but I went in cold and I’m almost positive I did 10 times better on this SAT then the previous one.

So, my question is, is there any type of appeal process? What can I do?

PS. I had no idea my father was going to be at my test center. I do not live with him, so there wasn’t a way to prevent him from showing up.

Your situation is pretty uncommon, but, given the circumstances, CB might have acted reasonably as having your father proctoring the test could indeed offer some sort of advantage. The only possible appeal would be your counselor telling CB that she proctored the test herself, but not sure if it would work…
Anyway, CB will certainly offer you a free retest and you may ask to take it in one the rescheduled test centers in which the test has not yet been taken, so chances are you will still be able to have your scores by Dec 1st. Call them right now and see what you can get!

^ that’s true; for circumstances such as that, they usually allow you to take a retake the following week or so, so you should still get your test scores on time
