SAT January 2012 QAS

Has anyone gotten their QAS yet for the January 2012 SAT?

Has anybody received the January, 2012 QAS ?

Yes

I need a non-algebra, wise guy/gal think out of the box sorta way to solve the following problem. I can’t unlock how to back-door it. Is there an easy, smarty-pants way to solve the following problem. I know the correct answer is 3 but how & why

Question: If 2x + 2x + 2x = 12, what is the value of 2x - 1?

A 2
B 3
C 4
D 5
E 6

I think this question is a basic question of math. Let me help you ^^
You have 2x + 2x + 2x = 12, then you add them up, and you will get 6x = 12
Divide both side by 6, and you will get x = 2
Then, put x = 2 into the equation 2x - 1 , you will get 2(2) - 1 = 4 - 1 = 3

So… you want an algebra approach do you…

2x times 3 is 6x, then you get x = 2

2 times x is 4, and 4 minus one is 3

Tada !!

6x = 12, therefore x = 2. 2(2)-1 = 3

^The solutions above are all correct and straight-forward.
For something less algebra-like:

Three identical packets add up to 12. What’s in each packet? What’s one less than what’s in each packet…

Or here’s another way, less efficient but still algebra-free: Just use trial and error until you find an x value that “fits”. You’ll soon see that x = 2. Then find 2x-1.

“An odd friendship” in certain respects, she being an outdoor enthusiast and he a dedicated bookworm.

Does anyone kno y the answer is “Theirs was an odd friendship”?

I suspect it has something to do with the clauses.

“she being an outdoor enthusiast and he a dedicated bookworm,” is not a complete sentence in itself and must be preceded by an independent clause.

“Theirs was an odd friendship” is probably the only choice that is both a complete sentence and fits logically in context - that is, the second dependent clause should elaborate on the independent clause.

I was just looking mine over and it says that question 24 from a reading section was dropped. Any of you remember which question it was? It doesn’t include it in the packet.

I haven’t gotten mine yet. Where do y’all live and when did you get it?

I still haven’t gotten mine either. Slow collegeboard is slow.

Maybe I’m just tired, but is there a way to still order the QAS online? I can’t seem to find the link/button for it.

Here ya go…

Be prepared to wait…I ordered mine with the test registration and it’s not here yet:(

CT, NJ, NY, and NYC are getting their QASs slowly but steadily this week.

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin used x-rays to discover the chemical structures of pencilin and vitamin B12, (winning a Noble Prize for her work)

whats wrong with :
-her work having won a Noble prize for her
-this work won her a Noble prize

The first is unnecessarily wordy, and the second involves a comma splice.

why (winning a Noble Prize for her work)
is not a misplaced modifier since it modifies Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin

???
