Sorry about spelling error in title but it really is… I would say that I am an above average math student. I recieved an A in geometry, B+ in Honors Algebra 2, and a B+ in Honors Precalculus and will take Hon Calculus next fall. But I have consistently gotten an average SAT Math score on every practice test since I started prepping for the test in March. Roughly in PR I get a 500, in Kaplan 600, and the Blue Book a 550 (which has more weight). I don’t think it is because I am a bad test taker…in CR and Writing I score around 720-750 (Blue Book), consistently. I take a full math SAT section every other day and correct my anwsers the following day. I write down the corrections in a notebook and make notes on any concepts that I didn’t know. But I still see no improvement…does anyone have any advice for me? I hope to have some where around a 610 come June 2 (I don’t really want to take the SAT in November and have to prep during the summer, but I will if I have to…).
Thanks in advance!!!

Besides taking them over and over again, have you sat down with the types of questions you have the most difficulty with, and try and see what your doing wrong? What I did to help my daughter was write out steps to go thru for those types of questions. For instance my daughter had a bad habit of not reading the questions completely, and this was the type of questions that had a 3rd step, but the answers choices also had the answer after the second step of the question and her eye would be drawn to it, and she would always go for that answer.
She also found in sitting down with the tests, the most wordy math problems were the most straight forward, meaning basic calculations, but all the wordiness would panic her. We wont know what the outcome is til tomorrow, but her first SAT in January, she was at 600 in Math, her practice questions she was coming back with one tops 2 wrong after really finding her weak spots. So from 600 to 750 + in practice tets just putting in the time and her weakness really helped her at least in practice. Look at it like a puzzle to figure out and you’ll get there. Good luck.

Thanks. I will try to do analyze the types of questions that I am missing today. I think that I have the same problems that your daughter has. Sometimes a long paragraph seems daunting, and I tend to read fast, anwser, and move on due to time constraints. Any other advice?

If your problem is timing I would recommend Kaplan Quiz Bank - http://www.kaptest.com/Kaplan/4/College/SAT/Practice-SAT-PSAT?ProductId=
You will need to sign up for it , but It is free.
It will really tech you time management. At first try 10 15 Math questions at a time with the timing option.

But still, continue doing Blue Book Math sections to be more familiar with College Board questions.

Thanks, LaNY2007 I will sign up right away!!

Try this on for size. :)

B- in Alg 1, B-C in Geometry, currect C in Alg 2. Starting last week, I will do 26 hours of SAT private tutoring at a prep centre before 2 June… two hours a day, six days a week. And the goal I might achieve? Hitting 600. Yikes!

Have you been doing basic practice along with advanced practice? Reading your description of your study habits, it sounds like perhaps you may want to review the building blocks of the maths you are doing.

^^i tried the kap quiz bank test.

i’m so bad at math.
:(

blah.

oh well i’m good at W/CR
