Pink paint is made by mixing 5 parts white paint with 1 part red paint. If Joseph uses this method for making pink paint and he has 3 gallons of white paint and 1 gallon of red,what is the maximum amount of pink paint that Joseph can make?

break the 1red and 3white into a 5-1 ratio so 3-.6. you will use up all the white paint that is 3 gallons as its what your 3 is in the 3-.6 ratio, and then .6 gallons of red so 3+.6=3.6
