I used personal experience, Cinderella Man, and Othello (him taking Iagos advice instead of going with feelings)

My S said he was able to make references to “Slaughter House Five” in writing his essay.

i used the abbe from monte cristo who warned that revenge would be bad and edmund burke vs. the young french revolutionaries.

ehhh.

and, yes, dumblydorr def. sprang to my mind.

What was everyone’s topic? Mine was regarding whether a logical or emotional approach is better in decision making, or something like that.

Personal experience, The Great Gatsby, and the Book of the Grotesque by Sherwood Anderson.

Chill out guys, I think there are about 3/4 different possible prompts.

I blanked, I can’t ever remember the details. I doubt I’ll get anything better than a 7. I wrote about Rosa Parks - how as an adult made a difference and we can learn from her to not follow trends, and the Movie “fireproof” - how people tend to treat elders like children and we forget they have already experienced everything we’re going through.

Mostly just a lot of fluff and big handwriting.

So is there some restriction on discussing these prompts? If so, how can I delete/edit my previous post?

How detrimental is it to not have a conclusion on your essay?

@ Bob - how did you use the Great Gatsby?
@Cupnoodles - not writing a conclusion can mean getting a score lower. (ex: if you were to get a 12 with a conclusion, you’d get a 10 without one.)

I guess it really depends on who’s reading it and how good the essay is. Conclusions are necessary though.

Do you think i will get major points off because I spelled General McClellan’s name as General McCllelan in my essay?

Shoot. I was hoping for a 800 WR too… Thanks miss_murd3r.

For the generational one I used the Civil Rights movement and how it consisted primarily of college students, then details about the “Freedom Summer” in Mississippi and “Freedom Rides”. My second example was “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand. I talked about how the newly college-dropout symbolized originality and individualism while the older Toohey and Francon were corruption.

I was also able to use the words: quixotic, coterie, and actuator.

@d12345: Spelling doesn’t really affect the score. The essay is graded holistically. If you were making grammatical errors - that would be a problem. (Verb tense, pronouns, etc.)

@cupnoodles: Yeah…I’m sorry! I’m sure you didn’t do too bad though. And I agree - WR section was pretty easy. It sucks that most colleges don’t use WR…they use Math and CR.

@miss_murd3r

I said that Gatsby is older than Nick and that his life experience should not be trusted as it leads him to immorally pursue Daisy.

I managed to use ostentatious, but that’s about it. How many tough words do I need for a 12 essay?

Great topic! I used Billy Beane and the scouts in Moneyball, and FDR and his New Deal.

I used the Bush family (tried to keep it as unbiased as possible), Great Expectations, and a personal connection.

Huck Finn - example of positive emotions

Willy in Gatsby - Fails because he seeks perfection, commits suicide etc.
