SAT May 2012 Official Discussion

thanks
I knew that it was wrong but I wanted to know the answer choices because I am not sure if I put that if you know what I am saying…

What did you guys get for “Why did the person say ‘We live in Earth’” or something along those lines. I was debating between answer choice A which addressed the previous paragraph or B which bluntly stated that we shouldnt listen to them.

It was something about it being behind its stricly physical properties. We are investigating it for other purposes essentially.

another word choice was extemporaneous for the one with laconic, cohesive, and histrionic

Did you guys get “she and pollock”. I felt “two of them both” is improper and should be written as “both of them” for it to be considered.

how do you know what section was expiremental?

You don’t know which was experimental, so I think everyone’s just guessing based on which was the “weirdest”. All I know is that I had 4 CR sections, so it was likely one of those.

I chose she and Pollock. :D

@Siddy: It’s “she and pollock” because saying “the two of them both” is redundant.

Bro you getting it all wrong. I think they were talking about how the Astronauts reported back info… And their reports/conversations were not or rarely expansive, but was in fact short and brief… Think you altered the sentence too much.

@hkim, both of the options are redundant in their own sense

I feel its only wrong because “two of them both” is easily replaced by “both of them”.

“Two” and “both” is redundant yeah.

I’m pretty sure the answer to that question was 1/6. The question said that the product of 6 and j is one more than the square of k. So 6j = k^2 + 1. The objective is to find the smallest possible value of j given k is an integer. Since k can equal 0 (an integer) then 6j = 1 and j = 1/6. It is also impossible for the value of j to be negative because k is squared.

@siddy: Did you end up choosing “she and pollock”?

@ripziro: Yes, 1/6 is correct. I don’t understand why people think the answer is 0!!

I did that too but the directions specified EVEN integars :(

will i get a zero on my essay if i wrote a little bit outside the box?

@hkim I did end up choosing that and i’m 100% sure “two of them both” is incorrect and better written as “both of them”

You won’t get a zero for the essay, but they just won’t count whatever is outside the box. What I’m wondering is if they’ll count my last line, which is BELOW the last line, on the bottom border of the box, but still in the box. I just have abnormally large handwriting. :(

yea same here! i had to squeeze my last sentence below the lines, and wrote a little in the “do not write here” box but then I erased it, so hopefully I wont be penalized

As easy as the math was, is it still possible to receive an 800 if i know i missed a grid-in. It was the pie chart one and i didn’t completely read the directions and put 2/5 for monthly instead of 4/5 for ATLEAST monthly.

for the writing section was “resistance of” incorrect? im fairly positive that the answer was e

I’m pretty sure “resistance of” is incorrect. It’s “resistance to”.
