SAT Misconduct

My daughter, a junior, returned home from her SAT today with awful news. She was caught glancing at a previous section of the exam by the proctor, who confiscated the test and asked her to leave immediately. At that point, she had finished nine sections out of ten. Does anyone know the repercussions? Will the score just be canceled, or will there be a disciplinary record on her college board account? If so, will notification be sent to her high school? She is planning on applying to top colleges.

I believe that they will only cancel the score. However, I could be wrong.

Her score will be canceled, that’s all.

well, why was she glancing back at the other sections?

^You know why. Don’t ask questions just to be an ass.

@OP

The Collegeboard won’t notify colleges. They’ll only cancel the test.

I actually don’t, I wasn’t there

But if she knowingly went back to other sections with the intent to complete/change answers after the break that is cheating and you should talk to her about it

Why would anyone look back? To recheck answers or change answers. What other reason would there be? Any type of looking back is considered cheating, so it doesn’t really matter why.

Also, your first post doesn’t address OP’s question at all. She wants to know the repercussions from being caught. Why her daughter looked back is of no concern to you and won’t help you answer the question.

but she should address it with her daughter
nevertheless it won’t show up for colleges

and maybe it was a mistake (went to the wrong section after break) or started filling in bubbles for a previous section with less questions

Let OP do the parenting. Stick to answering the question at hand. Like I said before, it is none of your concern.

is all you needed to say.

Sorry for thread derailment.

P.S. I’m sure you’ve had some experience with cheating, being a Patriots fan, eh?

Oh snap; it went there.

well at least we don’t trip people on the sideline :P

It definitely wont go on her record. Tell her to try to be more discreet next time.

My daughter, a football fan, just read this thread and it cheered her up - thanks! I’m still curious as to whether there will be a “black mark” on my her college board account. I am about to cancel the score myself - but will the record of misconduct remain?

haha well to relate it back to the OP, they were discreet about their attempt at cheating haha

Update: We canceled my daughter’s score and she has received an email confirming the cancellation.

Question: If she applies to schools that require all SAT scores, will her report show that she took the SAT in March and the score was canceled?

no^^^^^^^^^^^

Relax - no record and no repercussions. Look at the test as good practice and move on.
