SAT or ACT -- Class of 2017 (alias SAT guinea pigs)

I am going into my Junior year and am the class of 2017. As you may already know, our class is the guinea pigs for the new SAT. I live in Maryland and am wondering if the ACT would be a better option? Should I take both? What are the pros and cons? Thanks!

Try out both since some people do better on the SATs and some better on the ACT. I personally took the SATs only 2 times, was not happy, and moved on to the ACT. I’ve been doing some research and every college I’ve read up on seems to accept both/either so just find out which one works for you and stick to it! Good luck!

IMO,
SATs = more abstract
ACT = more straightforward (but higher level math).

Search up some practice test questions for both and see which test seems more suited to your abilities!

I faced the same question last week, as I wanted to get a head start on studying, but the truth is, you should really take diagnostic tests first, because sometimes, you don’t know what your strengths are in the midst of three different tests, as all of their structures differ. From what I’ve gathered in general information, ACT is for students that feel more STEM-capable, whereas SAT is usually LAC-oriented, but your own skills could take you a different direction. Good luck!

If you are taking PSAT in October for NMSQT - there is really no getting around the new version.

Aren’t we able to take the current SAT until January? Like isn’t Jan2016 the LAST current SAT? Since I am in 2017, and I was planning on taking the December/January ones… And then I was going to take the ACT as well.

@splashzone10 Yeah, you can take it up to January. But you still need to prep for the new PSAT.
