Hi my child scored 1400 on new sat and 31 on act. He has uc GPA of 3.86 .looking to major in engineering computers. Sjsu or UCSC…does he have chance also which is better score act or new sat.
According to the New SAT vs ACT concordance table, a 1400 on the New SAT translates to a 30 ACT.
A 31 ACT translates to a 1430 on the New SAT. Both are very close. I would submit both. UC’s and CSU’s will use the highest score.

His major is very competitive …computer engineering.
UCSC is definitely not a guarantee, but he has a decent chance. Make sure he applies widely and has several solid match schools besides SJSU on his list along with a safety (one that is willing to attend, just in case.).
