PACE (National QuizBowl Championship) is on June 6th, however I was intending to take the SAT the second time. My first time I received a 2270 (R: 800 M: 720 W: 750). I am concerned about my math score, especially because I want to apply as a Physics major. I know the math score is a fluke, it is because of 2 missbublings back to back, and I regularly received 800s in math section on practice. I do not believe I can take the SAT in October, because I am taking my Subject Tests then. I don’t really want to take the SAT in November especially because I am applying ED (either Cornell, Rice, Northwestern, or Johns Hopkins), I would like to see the score beforehand. However, I am rather good at QuizBowl and I would love to prove myself at National Stage, so I could be “recruitable” possibly for colleges, but that is not gurantee. Does anyone know if the SAT has a special day I can just take the SAT around the June testing date, like how they do for religious reasons and so forth? Please help me, I am very confused what to do! Thank you!
Ug I would not miss quizbowl for SAT. What a shame. Your SAT is very good likely your SAT II would be good enough to rely on. You can mention in ‘other info’ you chose not to retake because of QB maybe, better ask other opinions on that, it could be seen as not worth mentioning or a little lame. I don’t think it is worth it to miss your life for something like that, I am more a chips fall where they may, believe in yourself type of thinking on test retake and avoiding desperation to get in anywhere particular.
@BrownParent I’ve taken one SAT subject before, which was Biology M. I got a 750, which is lower than expected but I suppose it’s okay given my family situation at time. I am just worried about SAT math score, it’s quite low for an aspiring Physics major. Would an 800 on SAT II math offset this score? I am willing to make “sacrifice”, if I need to for improving my college application. I am first generation college, so this is very confusing for me. Thanks for your help.
That’s what I am saying, I think a good score in SAT II math will be fine. SAT math isn’t everything. You have math classes and grades. Have one of your letters of rec be from your math teacher. I can’t see it will make or break you. Once you are sufficiently in the accept zone and you would be in the 25-75 pct range for all those colleges they will go to other things. They don’t usually consider the major so much, people can change major. Also, all those schools give consideration to first gen to attend college. Are you low income by any chance? Or are you paying full price as you don’t compare financial offers ED?
@BrownParent I do not believe I am low income, I believe I am the middle of the middle class. When I have run the NPCs for these schools, they all come about 9k-13k. Does being white mostly negate the first generation advantage? Also, do you know if I can take the June SAT on an alternate day in June, like they allow those with religious conflicts?
I don’t know about the SAT alternate date. Ask your GC, explain the conflict. See if this is discussed in the SAT forum. (don’t freak out in there)

Nov is NOT too late to take the SAT again for ED.
Your mat score will also probably go UP then if you are taking another math class your SR year.
More math under your belt= higher math score.
