SAT or sports? i want to go to columbia

I found a very good teacher for SAT preparation. However, she has a full year program which I will have to start from next month. I was originally in line with 40 other people trying to get into her classes, but miraculously my friend let me join her group so now I am kind of enrolled in her class. There are conflicts with my schedule though. I’ll be able to attend her classes until August, but when autumn is here, I’ll have to commit to soccer. I’ve been on the varsity squad for 2 years (will be 4 since I’m a sophomore) and I want to look good in front of the coach to become captain my senior year-even though I just moved and might not have a bigger chance than 2 of my other sophomore varsity players. Thursdays I have games and my teacher wants to have the weekly classes starting from august on that day. I don’t know which one to fully commit to. I want to go to Columbia or other ivy league colleges, but I don’t know whether its better to be captain of the soccer team or to have a good SAT score…

Your opinions please!
P.S. - Everyone who has taken her class receives 2300+ and have recommended everyone to her class. Hint- 40 people still waiting in line to get tutored by her.

If you learn well on your own, then I think SAT teachers are highly unnecessary since you can just buy yourself a good review book (Princeton Review) and learn the techniques yourself. If however you don’t, then you may want to take the class. Ivy Leagues don’t care that much about sports unless if you are superstar (ex: went to states). Sports however can show your dedication to an activity and leadership. It’s all up to you on how you learn and how you want to manage your time.

i’d definitely say sticking with soccer. to ivy league colleges, anything that’s 2100+ is decent. they care more about who you actually are and what you do versus taking a lot of prep and getting an artificial score.

yeah, seriously I did a SAT tutor class, and it didnt help crap. It took me a year of self studying after the class to get my scores up. SAT really can’t be tutored (writing grammer you can memorize on your own, math do problems on your own, but critical reading is a comprehensive test of your reading skills that you accumulate through your lifetime). Stick with soccer!

but then again i dont think its just the question of SAT v. Soccer. soccer is a great extracurricular activity, but thousands of students play soccer, so unless you’re good enough to get recruited, it holds only as much weight as any trite extracurricular activity. Good luck!
