The presupposition that happiness can be achieved without peace is a categorical truth. Although some critics would argue that people could fulfill their personal goals and become happy, they are too dogmatic in their provincial views. Three classic archetypes that illustrate how collective harmony contributes to happiness include Macbeth, the Cold War, and the racial fight for equality. </p>
<p>Shakespeares Macbeth exemplifies the notion that complacence is devoid without tranquility. Through his lust for power, Macbeth murders the current king and establishes a secure reign. He should feel pride at the honor bestowed upon him; however, his compunctions consistently attack him. </p>
<p>The Cold War similarly portrays the false sense of security with a lack of peace. The U.S.A and U.S.S.R both invested large sums and resources to develop myriad weapons. When one country had exceeded the others cache, it would proclaim itself the greatest nation until the other did the same. The end result was that no country won. But this façade of happiness is not limited to the Cold War; this situation is prevalent throughout history. </p>
<p>The racial struggle for equality was a tough and arduous battle in American History. African Americans thought that by boycotting white goods and maintaining African American segregation, they could attain happiness. The eventual desegregation confirms the true contentment felt by African Americans when there was harmony between the cultures. </p>
<p>The notion that true satisfaction derives from self-achievement is decidedly false. Only through collective peace is happiness attained.</p>
