SAT Prep difficulties

So I have taken 12 tests from the kaplan SAT book and have averaged 2100, recently i took a practice test from the Princeton Review book and received a score of 1980. Does anyone know if the Kaplan and PR tests are harder than the actual SAT, if so what would my score on the actual SAT approximate to? Thanks!

I’d advise you tobuy the Official SAT Study Guide 2nd edition. It has 10 real tests with answers but no explanations. You can buy a Ted’s SAT Solutions or Testmaster’s solution for indepth explanations.

Any non College Board tests are a waste of time since the material isn’t the same difficulty as the real SATs.

Happy testing!

^disagree that “non College Board tests are a waste of time”. Many of them are good for practice, but the trick is knowing which can give you some benefit.

Princeton Review:
Math–Difficulty is accurate or at least very close to accurate
Reading–Much more difficult
Writing–Slightly easier

Kaplan:
Math–Too easy
Reading–Somewhat close but strange questions
Writing–Strange questions

Score Conversion, understanding this is rough:

From PR to SAT:
Math: 20 point increase expected
Reading: 40 point increase expected
Writing: 10 point decrease

Kaplan to SAT:
Math: 40 point decrease expected
Reading: 30 point decrease expected
Writing: 30 point decrease expected

Hopefully this helps…

thanks guys!

I will second what @TommyD36‌ said above, focus on the Official SAT tests. The Official SAT Guide with 11 tests is a good place, and Tests#1 to 3, and 11 will give you an accurate score and input on where you currently stand. The tests made by test prep outfits cannot capture the style and format of the real SAT, often they are ambiguous and unnecessarily complicated. If you need additional tests, subscribe to Collegeboard’s Official Online course that gives another 10 tests.
