hi all
I’ve been an active observer of college confidential discussion forums
usually i would stay quiet and go about my way but i almost feel like this is something that i must share with others as i know how so many are trying to get high scores on the SAT
I’m just another high school kid who has a pretty good GPA … looking to apply to top 20 schools, ivys included
october of last year i took my first SAT thinking ‘how hard could this be?’
the result? definitely not ivy league bound
i ended up getting around 1900
since then i studied hard. i bought and solved more than 3 SAT prep books (deact. my sns accounts and dug into study mode) and took the january test hoping for 2250+
well the results were not that different: 2050
so i asked a few friends of mine to see what they do to prepare and even enrolled in highly sought-out test prep classes (which by the way really doesn’t teach you any “tactic/skill”) but i wasn’t getting anywhere
then it was at the most random place/occasion (family dinner with family friends) i came to know a dude who teaches SAT to pay for his graduate school. because the other family friends’ kids were around my age the dinner conversation somehow led to college and SAT scores and one of the moms started to mention this guy and how her son went from 1850 to 2300 in 3 months of classes with him … in my mind i said thats bull$#!+ and i just carried on with my food but that score 2300 just lingered in my head for the next few days so i asked my mom if she would be willing to “invest” lol in my test score and as most parents would she was very willing. so we contacted the guy and had a light consultation and talked about my goals and what I’m doing all the small details then we scheduled our classes and things kicked off
i must say this dude was like the SAT master. he approached the test in completely different manner. and the best part was he had so many resources. i mean obviously i put my effort into it too but i was amazed at how “easy” the test was once he kinda showed me different things
the best part - i ended up getting 2360 on my march test and i am finally done with my SAT
i hope you guys don’t get the wrong message here … I’m not here to brag I’m sure there are plenty of 2400s out there laughing at me right now but what prompted me to come on here and talk to you about this dude was his passion. the guy was even more excited when i told him i got 2360. and he just had this - i don’t know how to put it - eagerness to teach you more and more. i almost felt like this talent/charisma that this guy possesses must be shared with others who are in the same shoes as i once was. if you are thinking of taking classes at one of the prep places consider giving this dude a shout because i almost feel like anyone with a bit of motivation can reach a high score with the way this guy approaches SAT
good luck!
