sat question of the day

Those scholars who believe that the true author of the poem died in 1812 consider the authenticity of this particular manuscript ------- because it includes references to events that occurred in 1818.

ageless
tenuous
suspect
unique
legitimate

The answer is suspect but couldn’t it have been tenuous. your opinions are much appreciated

true… i guess, after looking at the definition on dictionary.com. I got it right, but I dont’ know how to explain it to you. lol sorry.

tenuous means “weak and unconvincing,” like an argument that lacks substance.
suspect means to be suspicious of something-- it fits better.

a manuscript might not be able to be “weak” (which is what tenous means), but a manuscript can surely be “suspect” (suspect means something whose genuineness can be doubted)

To be more precise, it is the authenticity (not the manuscript) that is suspect.

An argument may be tenuous; authenticity may be doubtful.
