SAT question of the day

uh… one of my questions was this

Modern discus throwers much the same technique

B Of ancient Greeks
C As ancient Greeks did

The answer is C… why?

And why does the question not even make sense? Shouldn’t it be Modern discus throwers use MANY OF the same techniques, not MUCH?

Modern discus throwers use much the same technique (of ancient Greece).

A of ancient Greece
B of ancient Greeks
C as ancient Greeks did
D as they did in ancient Greece
E like ancient Greeks

There’s an illogical comparison. The sentence is currently saying that ancient Greece itself had the same technique. You want to use a choice that compares to the Greeks. Since you’re making a comparison, you use “as”. That’s why it’s C.

“many of the techniques” is not the same as “much the same technique.” All you have to do is use the dictionary. “much the same” means that the technique is the same to a great degree. It is used to add emphasis to the similarity of the two techniques
