SAT question

Does Columbia look harder at the subscore that is more related to one's major? E.g., why does a film student need to be in the 700's for math? Does an engineer need to be able to write as well as an English major?

No, your score is related to who your are. But SEAS students are expected to do well in math and relatively well in verbal also since Columbia does focus more on the humanities with its Core.

So will it look bad that I have a 690 in IIC and 740 in SAT math, but a 630 Verbal and 640 Writing? To me that just looks bad, since CC seems to be more focused on writing, since writing is required. But would making a 760 in US History help to alleviate any damage?
