SAT Question

hey guys, i just signed up for the june SATs as a freshman. i have done many practice tests and i normally get in the 750-800 range in the writing, 700-750 range for the math, and about a 600-650 for the critical reading. i just ordered the official blue book study guide that i will plan to finish or mostly finish by the test date. my question is should i focus on the math and the writing to hope to get 750-800 in both, but then allow my reading to probably be in the mid-high 600s? i was thinking this would be a better route to go because i plan on taking them sophmore year and junior if necessary, and i figure if i get a nice 750-800 on both the writing and math, i will only have the critical reading to study for my next test date. would you guys say this is a better strategy than getting like 700-750 for all of them? i figure if i were to study the blue book for the math and writing, i would be able to get the high 700s for both, or instead i could study more for the reading and not as much for the others and probably get more of a balanced score. with score choice, i am aiming more for the math and writing route, but let me know what you guys think on the situation
thanks!

I would personally spend a majority of the time studying for the Critical Reading portion in order to avoid any lingering imbalance.

You should definitely, definitely focus on the CR portion at this point. Your math and writing scores will eventually tip towards 800. There is really no need to focus on those sections. You will gradually learn what it takes to get those few extra points while you study for CR.

ok, thanks guys. ill bump this up for another question. my main goal is to apply (and hopefully get in) to yale scea. i saw on yale’s website that they see all scores. if i get like a 2100-2200, will yale look at my (hopefully) 2300-2400 score from sophmore or junior with less value? im just wondering if the retake will look bad.

2100-2400 is competitive enough for Yale. You should send in your better scores later if they naturally happen to go up.

Wow! Amazing scores! Practice a lot for CR(that’s my range too), check out noitaraperp’s guide on the SAT forum. It’s a sticky

well, i actually got the bb, did about 5-6 tests worth of cr, and now im up to about a 700-750 average! me being the pessimist i am, im shooting for a 2100, even though im probably more like a 2200. my only question is, would it be better to only take it once as a sophmore or junior and get a 2300-2400, or should i take it 2-3 times (once in june) to show consistency and improvement? if it would look better for the one time, i can just eat the $45 registration fee.
