--- SAT Range for Elite Schools??? -----

I took the SAT1 for the first time in May 2006. I’m hoping to go to a top school like Stanford or UPenn. I don’t need standardized tests to carry me, but I’m hoping that they don’t bring me down.

What would be a combined SAT1 score that would be in the range for elite schools, especially Stanford?

Thanks

I’d say 680 would be the absolute minimum for any given section… probably best to be in the 700-800 range in every section if you can do it. Once you get into that range, other factors are probably more important than scores.

I’d say around 2100+… 2100’s is borderline something in the 2200’s would be “solid”, 2300’s would be fantastic.

yeah, I think one problem with getting 700 is that while your score range will go stretch well into the 700-800 range, it’ll also go into the 600-700 range, whereas a ~750 is a solid 700-800 range score.

But of course, even getting a 2400 doesn’t guarantee admissions to any university.

ok…i got a 2010
650 reading
710 math
650 writing
10 on essay

I’ve obviously got to retake or get a 33-35 on the ACT to get into a top school, right?

i mean…its not bad bad! i’ve seen plenty of kids who have entered elite schools with a bit lower scores. But the important thing is that you have a minimun of 1280 (math+verbal). Most schools will accept a 80%… and if you look at colleges they show their mid 50%…for example upenn. = 680 Cr…etc…so 50% had lower scores…but entered…

SAT are important, but it seems that EC and your character are much important admission factors

HYP average for CR+M is 1500.

My brother got into UC Berkeley with ****ty SAT IIs, and 1600 on his SAT… out of 2400!!

Comes to show that essays and gpa can sort of makeup for bad SATs. Doesn’t mean I’m following his method, of course.

what does “HYP” average mean?

HYP is harvard-yale-princeton

anyway, if you are looking for SAT ranges go to collegeboard.com. For example, here’s Harvard’s profile found on collegeboard:
