I will apply to MIT and Caltech EA and have gotten the following SAT and AP scores:

SAT (1st time): 720 CR, 800 M, 710 W
SATII: Math II - 800, Chem - 800

AP

English Lang 5
US Gov Pol 5
World history 5
Calc BC 5
Biology 5
Chemistry 5
*Physics Mech 5
*Physics E&M 5

*self-studied

Because I will compete against other asians, I consider my SAT score sub-par (even my 8th grade brother beat me!). Should I retake the test in the fall?

the question depends on your other stuff. if you have a near perfect GPA, very involved ECs, and some math/science awards, you will be very fine.

Since schools seem to only look at your top scores in each section, there’s no reason to not re-take it.

How did your brother beat you? What math is he taking?

Probably for CTY. There are some darn smart 8th graders out there, I met one that got a 2400.

P.S. you have really good AP scores, and your SAT score is just fine, the whole admissions process doesn’t depend on it.

While they’re very good scores and “the whole admissions process doesn’t depend on it”, your verbal score is only avg at MIT and below avg at CalTech. So there’s no reason to not try to place oneself higher than that, if it’s at all possible.

You could probably raise your Writing score with studying.
