I took the SAT in jan and got 1990… in may i got a 1960…
cr/m/w
jan = 610/710/670
may = 600/720/640
i cannot for the life of me get better at critical reading… during the time between jan and may i studied critical reading almost exclusivley, with a bit of math to try and get a 770 or more.
i can never seem to get past 660 on reading.
i plan on taking the SAT next in october and i need to get my cr/m to atleast 1400 to be in good shape for umd cp…
how do i get better at CR? any tips, good review books or what?? :((
also i plan on taking the ACT in september
Sorry to hear that. For me CR was the most difficult section to lift but you should be familiar with the questions. If you are failing on vocab, I will suggest you to get direct hits to study. Have you taken any practice ACT test?
i have not taken any act practice tests… but i have the ACT book and the English section is troublesome. Vocab doesnt kill me but rather the critical readiing…
Well, then try to write on a notebook the question that you often get wrong on your test. For the ACT, try to do one if you get better score on that test, then forget about the SAT.
also will this affect my admission to UMD if my super score for cr + m is higher but between the two tests the cr + m stayed the same?
No, but I don’t know if they superscore. Have you seen if they superscore or not?
Ok, but try one more time to get 1400+ and you are done. But if you get better score on the ACT, then don’t bother to take the SAT again. Good luck!
Btw what’s your GPA?
most probably after this semester 3.60 uw and 4.37 wgpa… and by the end of 12 grade will have taken 8 aps
I have some simple tips that will get you a better score on the critical reading. It worked for me - and I didn’t take any classes or tutoring. Heck, I didn’t even spend much time preparing - and I got a 680. For critical reading questions, you’ll have to read the question carefully and focus only on the evidence in the text - not your outside knowledge. You’ll also have to ask yourself “What evidence is there to prove that?” before you decide on your answer. You shouldn’t interpret the text liberally to arrive at your answer. As for the vocabulary, you don’t have to memorize a long list. Just know the basic prefixes, root words, and suffixes, and use those to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
In short, the CR test is pretty much a logic test. If you apply the principle of valid argumentation of math to CR, you’d improve your score.
If you want to practice, buy a book called The Official SAT and go through the CR section.
A 1400 on math and reading combined will give you a great chance to get in.
ive already completed the entire blue book… it felt as if i did better in the blue book than i actually did on the real test…
what are some good books i should use
Prep black book and the critical reader are good books.
what would be a good book that has questions to answer
The best book that has questions to answer for the critical reading is the BB.
ugh… what if i already finished thw whole blue book… i just remember all the answers
Well, doing a lot of tests won’t help you to increase. IMHO, It’s better quality than quantity.
