How important is an applicant’s SAT score for schools who have the B.Arch program and require a portfolio for admission? Does the strength of a portfolio trump the more objective stats such as GPA, and class rank?
At the graduate level, the GRE is not all that relevant in the grand scheme of things. Only at a top 5 school (I know because of recent success in admissions to most of the 5+ programs). For undergraduate it should not be VERY important except for two things:
1, Arch kids seem to be pretty smart overall so a not so great SAT may ‘stick out’ if everyone else is batting 2000+'s. Same for GPA. My daughter mentioned that the college of architecture in her school seemed to have the highest GPA in the applicant pool… Don’t know if this is universal tho.
- There may be a catch with getting admitted to the university, depending on how they run admissions. If you first have to apply to the university, then to the school or college of architecture, someone may look at the application from general admissions where the Hoi Polloi apply. Once again that may or may not be the case.
- If SAT is not used in admissions as much as we think it is, it may well be used for academic scholarships and the like so...
