my sat score has improved 80 points (now its 1480) from when i initially sent my michigan application (sent Nov. 1). i haven’t heard from michigan, but i’ve sent a new score report of my scores. supposedly, this takes about 3-4 weeks.

is there any way that i can also contact michigan to report my new scores in case they decide on my application prior to recieving the new score reports?

thanks!

ps. i have a 4.0 unweighted gpa (all a’s), 1480 sat (out-of-state)
this qualifies me for the honors program
if they wanted to offer me a spot in the program and if i’m accepted to michigan, would they send an invitation in an acceptance letter? or after?

i think the official score report takes 3-4 weeks, but I think the school also gets the scores online, instantaneously. Probably emailed to them or something.

call the office and ask if they’ve received. If not, let them know it’s on the way.

Nathalie, a 1400 is very strong as it is, but a 1480 is significantly stronger…so call the office of undergraduate admissions and speak to a councelor. Seek out their input, but make sure they know your new score is availlable. There is a big difference between 1480 and 1400.

This new score will not make much of a difference from an acceptance point of you. If you applied in October, with a 4.0 unweighed GPA and a 1400 on your SATs, you are as good as in. But it will help your already great chances of getting into the honors program. If could also make a difference with merit aid. So be sure they get your new and improved SAT score ASAP.

So, to answer your question about the honors program, Michigan almost never sends the Honors invitation along with the initial acceptance package. So don’t be disapointed if you don’t get an honors invitation. That will most likely happen 4-8 weeks after you get your acceptance. And by the way, no matter what happens, do NOT wait for Michigan to act. You must take the initative. Michigan has 13,000 acceptances to worry about, so they are slow and sometimes forgetful. You must follow up constantly. Call the admissions office and see how you can get your new SAT score sent to them ASAP. Then call the office once they have your official score and tell them you would like to be part of the honors program…and call the financial aid office and see was you need to do to be considered for merit aid. You may get almost nothing, but you may also get a lot, but it does not hurt to ask.

But before you do anything, make sure they get your new SAT score and make sure you have the acceptance in your hand. Only then should you call the admissions and financial aid offices to ask about the honors program and about merit aid.

And by the way…very well done! Keep us posted on your progress.

How can I go about doing this?

Is it better to call them or to email?

And does anyone know either number/address?

THANKS!

I would call them first…and if they request an email, I would email them.
