I was just wondering if the threshold scores shown on the Pitt website needed for certain programs and opportunities (such as the 1490 for scholarship and GAP eligibility) reflect that of the new SAT? Also, if I meet the threshold score and send that score in with my application but also retake the SAT and send in a higher score, will that higher score be considered as well? Thanks!
@Exwire, Yes, the scores online are updated to reflect the new SAT. If you apply and take your second SAT well in advance of any posted deadlines for the GAP you are considering and indicate on your application that you are sending a new score, you should be good to go! If you would like to have a more in-depth conversation with one of our Admissions Counselors or Admissions Processors and you’d rather not call, you can reach us at oafa@pitt.edu.
@hailtopitt1787 Lets say I want to take the October SAT. Should I wait until those scores are out to apply or can I apply before that and still have the October SAT counted for merit considerations? I want to apply as early as possible. I am eager to apply and while I think my current SAT is good for admissions, its not quite high enough for merit considerations. Also, the Stamps and Nordenberg scholarships had minimum criteria that were slightly lower than the normal SAT requirements. I checked the pages again and it doesn’t have any criteria for SAT, GPA, etc anymore. Has it become a completely holistic review now? Sorry for all the questions, I’m really nervous about applying haha.
@classof2017, Yes, you can go ahead and apply. Please just let us know that you are planning to take the October SAT. If you have questions about the merit consideration process, feel free to contact our office: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.
As for the criteria, we don’t have a hard cut-off on the SAT/ACT/GPA. Anyone who meets the eligibility requirements as currently posted on our updated site may apply. The application will be posted on our website soon. To get an idea of what kinds of candidates have been offered scholarships in the past, take a look at this webpage: https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/
For the SAT - Yes, we will superscore your SAT Critical Reading or Evidence Based Reading and Writing subscore and your math subscore. We will use the highest of the SAT superscore in reviewing your application for admission.
For the ACT - We take the highest composite score.
For both - You are not required to submit SAT Essay or ACT Writing test scores.
@hailtopitt1787 Just to clarify, the superscore is also used for merit scholarship requirements right? It says 1490 for the new SAT, I wasn’t sure if that was also superscore or single sitting only.
