SAT score thoughts and improvement tips

The October 1 SAT test scores came out and I got a 1380 in total. 760 Math 620 Reading/writing. I know I can do well on math but I need some help on reading/writing. Should I take it in December? I got 55/58 on math, 42/52 reading, 29/44 writing. I want to get into u mich my GPA is 4.3. Any tips on improving scores.

620 is below the 630 25th percentile for UMich for SAT R/W per the 2015 common data set while your 760 Math is just slightly below the 770 75th percentile for SAT Math. Are you applying regular decision for Fall 2017? If yes, then I would review the UMich website to see what the last SAT test dates they accept for regular decision. If they will take the December results it is probably in your best interest to re-take to try to improve your R/W score.

Focus on the English/Writing prep only. The scale is brutal! You can make more mistakes on reading and not be penalized so much.

Edit* - I’m a junior in high school.

If you are a junior you have plenty of time to retake and retake you should to improve your CR/W score. However you don’t need to retake in December. You can retake next Spring or even next Fall.

Yea, but I was planning to take Math 2 subject test and Chemistry Subject test during the Spring

There are multiple SAT test dates - Dec, Jan, Mar (sub tests not offered on this date), May and June. You may have to pick one for an SAT retake and others for SAT subject tests.

Thank you for the advice
