I’m submitting my SAT scores in a day or two, but I’m not sure which to report.
For starters, I’ve taken the SAT several times and so far, my best score is a 1440 (740 reading and 700 math) from January of this year.
Every other subsequent time, I’ve hovered around a 1430 and I no longer have time to retake it any more.
Should I only report the 1440 that I got in Jan. or does it look bad that I only reported one score?
I’m hoping to get admitted to one of UT Austin’s natural science honors, and I’m fairly certain I’m well qualified in other areas (rank, extracurriculars, experience, etc…)
Depends on colleges to which you intend to apply and what your other scores are: (a) there are a small number of colleges that require you to send all scores – see discussion here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1912440-must-you-submit-all-sat-act-or-sat-subject-test-scores-p1.html, but Texas is not one of those: (b) there are many colleges that “superscore” tests – if you submit multiple tests, they use that math section score that is highest and that reading/writing score that is highest from the combined tests and thus if you have other tests that have a higher math or reading score than shown in your post, you should also submit those tests-- but Texas is not one of those; (c) there are many colleges that use that test with the highest composite, and thus you need submit only the one; and (d) then there are colleges that sort of use that test with highest composite but with a twist in that some of its programs may consider other tests with higher section scores; that is basically where Texas falls – it uses only one test to determine admission but if you send multiple tests, it will use that one it believes is best for you; that might be important to your choice as to what to send, because for science majors, the math section is considered to be more important than the reading/writing section, and thus, for example, if one of your 1430 SAT’s consists of a 730 math and 700 reading/writing score, you should probably also send it along with your 1440.
