Geography (I’m from rural New Hampshire and only 10 kids from my school have ever applied to NYU, my first choice school-no students have attended before)
Legacy at NYU (Grandfathers on both sides of family attended NYU as well as various aunts, uncles, and cousins)
Does the fact I’m applying ED to NYU count??

Writing an essay about my experience on the ski team and how it has changed my life. I have been told I am an excellent writer. Also getting excellent recommendations from teachers who know me well

My List-

NYU CAS (first choice, early decision)
Barnard
SUNY Stony Brook
Sarah Lawrence
Hofstra
Tufts
BU
Northeastern
American
George Washington
Georgetown
UPenn

What do you think??

Bumpity bump

You look like a good shot for NYU. As always with NYU, don’t get too excited unless you are full pay. They are unlikely to give your stats much money.

In at all except upenn and Georgetown!

Thanks guys! Yes I am full pay, hoping to get some scholarships but I can pay.

You seem like a match for all of them - though I haven’t heard much and know practically nothing about uPenn, Sarah Lawrence and Georgetown.

If you have any suggestions for me, I’d appreciate you sharing them. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1290457-chance-me-u-chicago.html</a></p>

Bumppppp!!!

i think you’ll get into nyu(: esp with the legacy.
like others have been saying you’re probably have a good shot at most except penn & gtown. idk about tufts either bc ive personally seen kids with 1800 sat & 3.9 w get in while kids with a 2100 & 4.0 w got rejected.
good luck though! this is my thread if you want to help me out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1290851-help-pleaseee.html</a></p>

Don’t waste your ED on a school like NYU.

Bump! And futurevpfiance what do you mean by a school like NYU? it’s been my goal and first choice since 7th grade…

To be honest, im sure you can get into NYU with those stats, don’t ED. Save the ED for upenn

If NYU is your first choice, then absolutely apply ED… The whole point of early decision is to show the school that you WILL attend if you’re accepted and that it is your first choice school. If you just assume you’ll get in to NYU and apply to UPenn ED, there’s a chance that either you won’t get into NYU and a little more interest in the school would have gotten you in, or you’ll get into both but you’ll be obligated to attend UPenn because you applied there under Early Decision. ONLY apply to a school under ED if it is your first choice!!!

EDIT: Crossing Stony Brook, Hofstra, American, Georgetown, Penn and George Washington off my list. Also looking at Fordham. Changing IB chem to Physics.
Chances please? Bump!

you call those hooks? i call those basal facts.

chance me please…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1318037-alert-chance-mit-alert.html</a></p>

NASAman, I’m just going to go ahead and assume you meant basic facts, ahaha (:
anyway, based on what I’ve seen on CC I’ve always thought legacy, ect was a hook. I’ll admit, I’m no Pulitzer prize winning, cancer curing genius though (; Haha, good luck for MIT! May the odds be ever in your favor (:

NYU CAS (first choice, early decision) -80%
Barnard -100%
SUNY Stony Brook-100%
Sarah Lawrence-100%
Hofstra-500%
Tufts-101%
BU-95%
Northeastern-99%
American-99%
George Washington-100%
Georgetown-90%
UPenn-75-90% depending on your essays

No offense NASAman, where are you getting your statistics? Last time I checked tufts, Barnard, Georgetown and Penn were much more competitive than NYU.
Again, not trying to be rude, but if you know something the rest of us don’t I would REALLY like to know! :D

To be honest all those schools are incredibly easy to get into. I don’t see what the fuss is about. I was being generous considering how all those schools are basically mediocre.

Anyone with above average intelligence and a fair sat score (1800-2050) and a few ECs should have no problem with those schools. NYU is the most competitive on the list.No offense :)

I back up my claim saying any college that spams emails is not hard to get into (aghhhem hofstra, American, BU, northeastern, Barnard…)

“I back up my claim saying any college that spams emails is not hard to get into”

… but that’s not true at all. take wustl, for example (although it’s not on jsaffangrill’s list, it’s a very competitive school!). the reason that colleges send emails out is to attract as many applications as possible in order to make their acceptance rate go down to seem more selective.
you’re definitely underestimating the selectivity of schools like barnard (top-notch lac) and penn (ivy league… need i say more?).

jsaffangrill - I’m just another student like you so I don’t really have any knowledge of what your chances are  but applying ed to nyu will def. increase your chances no matter what!
