I just got my SAT scores back. After two sittings, superscored, I’m at 2200 (780 CR, 690 M, 730 W). My question is this: is that Math score good enough? Does it look bad that the Math score starts with a “6”? Should I retake it if I want to apply to Penn, Boston College, Georgetown, and Notre Dame?
Bump
I also had a 690 in math for my first try at the SAT. I opted to take it again, because I felt like I could do better, especially for engineering. Got a 750 the second time around. How I thought about it was: you don’t want to give them a reason to reject you. You’re applying for engineering and there are lots of engineering applicants who have very high math scores.
(For what it’s worth, I was waitlisted at Penn with an eventual superscore of 2330. Past a certain point, scores aren’t going to help you get in. But I think you want to meet their cutoff, and I don’t know what that cutoff is, of course. But it stands to reason that high math scores would be very much preferable for engineering.)
Wouldn’t retake it more than once, though, if you’ve already done two. Good luck with your decision!
@bodangles Is three sittings too many?
I’ve heard the general rule of thumb is no more than three, so three should be fine, as far as I know! After a while (five, six?) you just aren’t going to improve any more, anyway.
