SAT Scores: SAT vs SAT(R)

Not really a question about SAT prep, since I took the SAT quite a long time ago. But I have two sets of SAT scores on my college transcripts and was wondering how to interpret them:

SAT SCORES : VERBAL:720 MATH :660
VERBAL(R):790 MATH(R):650

What is the difference between “Verbal/Math” vs “Verbal/Math(R)”? I took the test back in 1992, graduated from the college that issued the transcript (University of Washington) in 1997, and ordered the transcript in 2008, if that has any relevance.

Thanks in advance.

Recalculated maybe? Don’t trust me lol.

In 1994, the SAT scales were “recentered” (hence the “R”). The first numbers are your actual scores, the second numbers are the equivalent scores on the new (1994+) test.

The two scales are different and not directly comparable, yet the scaled score range was kept the same, leading to confusion (such as yours) for years to come.
