SAT scores shatter my future career...

I’ve always wanted to become an investment banker. There’s not a set SAT score obviously but I was expecting a much higher score… I wanted a 2000… I got 1650. It’s really bad, it was also my first try, consisldering that breaking into investment banking is a very prestigious accomplishment. Should this shatter my ideal job? Give me motivation? I don’t really feel depressed more like extremely disappointed. I got 700 on math but since my second language was English, I ****ing bombed it. 450 on writing and 500 on CR. I studied the 2 weeks before taking it and took 2 practice test and averaged 1960. Was it that the test was extremely harder than normal? Should I feel discouraged? I’m even a little ashamed of telling my parents my grade :(

Don’t be discouraged. People on CC will say otherwise, but they are nuts and have been brainwashed by many people to think that school and SATs are everything. They say a 2000 is a fail, but in reality that ideology is an even bigger fail. It’s your first test. You probably got nervous. Don’t be nervous, you can always take it again. Have faith in yourself and whatever happens happens. Just work hard and hope for the best. Good luck!!

Alright thank you.

You can improve! Please try to move on from a bad SAT score! The test is all about practice! Here’s a tip for the writing section: Just keep practicing and figure out your mistakes. If you understand what you are doing wrong you will improve since the questions repeat themselves over and over again.
I went from a 168 PSAT to a 2220 SAT. I am sure you can do it! Just practice and correct your mistakes!
:)

I am on the same boat as you… My mom pretty much disowned me right there when I told her my score…

Try taking the ACT. They aren’t quite as nitpicky on language in my opinion. No vocabulary (except maybe for in context words from passages) and an easier Writing section from what I experienced. I know someone who couldn’t crack a 2000 SAT but got a 34 ACT, so anything is possible.

Thanks guys so much, I really hope I can be why I want. I thought my essay was quite good but only got a 7

Good luck.

Essay: fill up 2 pages. I just had a personal anecdote that I made up and got a 12 on the essay. You need to keep writing.

I do write a lot and I usually get like 6 of 9, 7 of 9 with my english teacher, I actualy enjoy writing essays. I think I’m going to take the ACT, see how I do.

QFT!!!

The fact that you care enough to be on here and write about it is a good thing. Prep more and you’ll definitely improve if you spend time taking practice tests and reviewing your mistakes.

My SAT timeline:
Soph year PSAT : 177
Practice tests during Jr. year summer : 1900-2100 range
Jr. year Oct SAT : 2200
Practice tests during Jr. year winter : 2100-2200 range
Jr. year Jan SAT : 2260

It’s been nearly exactly a year since I got my first fail PSAT score and realized I had to start trying. Though it may seem cliche, dedication and determination do pay off in the end. Don’t let this one sour score ruin your life; learn from it and conquer it in the future.

I agree. I totally BSed my essay but made it long, used varied sentence structure, and used occasional fancy vocab. My essay lacked anything solid since I drew a blank for examples and used all personal reflections/experiences. I ended up getting a 12.

Wow your smart… I did study, for only two weeks though.
