If an international student applying to ivies, gets a 1350,1390 on SAT but the super-score is 1460. Should one submit the scores? And do they really consider top scores from each section? As we have to submit all scores and cannot super-score ourselves.
I’m generally more in favor of submitting scores than a lot of posters on CC, but I would not submit these scores to Harvard. They are very unlikely to help you at all. Sorry.
The topic says Ivy but Harvard is tagged.
Harvard doesn’t superscore according to their website - so it’d be a 1390.
Their 25th percentile for reading is 730 and math is 760 - so your scores likely are not in the ballpark. More than 80% submit.
You’d need to check each school - their policy and their ranges.
Cornell - as an example, does superscore (at schools where they aren’t test blind). Their 25th percentile is 1470 - so some would say no because it’s well below median and below the 25th. Others would say yes so they don’t think you have an 1100.
So you have to do the exercise for each school of interest.
They mention they consider the top scores from each section tho. What does that mean?
I don’t think you should submit your scores as even the super score is on the low side for Harvard.
They look at each score and will see the highest math. But they don’t superscore them together. If your highest composite at once is a 1390 that’s what you get for that - that’s how I read it. How good at you one time….
You can email and ask for clarity.
I already checked the box on the application where it stated that I would like them to consider my SAT/ACT scores along my application. I haven’t yet submitted tho, is it okay to not submit at all?
I would ask them to change if you decide not to submit. Otherwise they may not process your app. You can email your AO and ask how to do if they don’t show it in their FAQs.
What about UPenn and dartmouth? They mention that they superscore.
Ok. Then they do. Check their profiles or CDS to see how you compare. There’s also schools with the colleges that may be different from one another.
There’s many more schools than Ivy, which btw is a sports league.
I hope you choose the right school and not just an Ivy. I mean Penn and dartmouth are very different.
Penn doesn’t list a composite but the 25th of each subsection adds to 1500 as an example. Me - I wouldn’t submit 1460 but I’m not you. They show 730 English, 770 math.
