SAT Scores

Hello CC!

I am a new member and I am pleading you guys to help me with my dilemma :(

I have fairly low scores for the SAT (1850 superscore) and that was when I took the SATs in January and May. I took the makeup test in November and got absurdly low scores. I am applying to very competitive colleges (MIT, Ivy Leagues).

My question for you guys is: When I send my score reports to colleges should I just leave the November scores out? Or would they prefer receiving all scores. The reason I’m asking is because if I don’t send in the November scores the admissions committee might think that I did not bother taking the SATs during my senior year.

Also, if I do decide not to send my November scores, should I not report the test date on my common app? Thanks a lot for any help/advice offered!

You need to apply to schools other than the Ivy Leagues. The average for a lot of those schools is above 2200. If you haven’t applied yet, the application deadline for many schools is January 1st. Please apply to other schools that match your stats in addition to these competitive schools.

In response to your question, most of the Ivies require you to send all scores, so check their website for their policy. You should probably report all scores.

Majority of colleges allow you to send whatever scores you want to send. However, of the ones you mention, MIT and ivies, be aware that Cornell, Yale, and Penn require you to send all SAT scores that you have and thus you cannot withhold the scores from those three. Admission committees don’t care whether you repeat the test in Fall of senior year after taking it in junior. If you decide not to send the Nov test scores to any college, the College Board (the testing company) does not provide the college with anything that indicates you took that test. Also, you don’t have to report the test date on the common app. Nevertheless, you must check what your school does because many put all your scores on your offical high school transcript that is sent to colleges, so choosing not to send the score through College Board may accomplish nothing.

Ok thanks for the replies! I was leaning on sending it anyway. I just needed other people’s opinions. And @awesome - Don’t worry I am also applying to schools like RPI, NYU-Poly and Carnegie. Those are my match schools considering I am in the top 1% of my class (Rank 2 out of god knows what).
