SAT scores

After doing some research, I’ve noticed that there was a very large range of what is considered good on the SAT. Living in Canada, I’ve always believed that 2400 was a perfect score, but I have noticed many kids talking about having a 1600.

Is this just because they ignored one section?

Could someone explain this to me?

Yea, it’s proabably jsut ppl forgetting the writing section when they say 1600 (800 math, 800 cr)…i dont think 1600 in three sections is considered “good” really, espcially not on this forum

by “many kids”, do you mean kids in canada or on here? Because in Canada (or in the United States or anywhere I think) the average SAT score is around 1600, so that would make sense how a lot of people have it because it’s the average score… but if you’re talking about people on here, it’s probably just the math and critical reading scores.

Okay, thanks a lot, and yes, I’m usually talking to successful students.

Would there be any reason for someone to exclude the writing portion though?

^ I don’t think many U.S colleges look at the writing portion [not sure abt Canada]

Well, before 2005 there was no Writing section, so either you’re looking at old posts or you’ve seen people who consider the writing section as something too new for colleges to assess properly. The Writing section is often termed the “coachable” section because a little preparation can improve your score substantially compared to a section like CR which requires long term preparation. This means the Writing section is not as valued as the other two.
