im posting this up again, b/c no1 replied to the previous post, so, how is the SAT writing graded? are the essay and the MCQ independent of eachother??

You get one score for your multiple choice (out of 49), and then an essay score, which is scored by two graders to get a score out of 12. They have a conversion chart or some method to match up your MC and your essay score. At least that’s what I think… that’s how the blue book tells you to score it.

Does anyone know how much $ does it cost to send our SAT score to one school ? I’m a little bit confused, since a couple of days ago I heard someone say with only 9$ we can send our score to EVERY school we like to. But I highly doubt that. 9$ for ONLY ONE school or for every school we wanna send to ?

Can anyone help clear this up ? Thanks a bunch ;)

The essay is assigned a score from 2-12 and then that score is scaled and combined with the scaled score from the MC questions (yes I know that the book doesnt do this, it gives you a 1-6 essay score range).

Roughly, the essay contributes 30% of the Writing Skills score, and the MC questions the rest. If you are really interested in it, find the Essay scores that do not change the MC score, multiply that score by 30% and add to it 70% of the MC score (multiply the MC score by 10 so that everything is consistent).

For example, look at an essay score of 5 and a MC Raw score of 45, so this roughly tells us that a 10 is consistent with a 750. Multiply 750 times 0.3 and add it to the product of 0.7 and 10 and the scaled score from the Writing MC Conversion table - voila your Writing Skills score.

PS - it does kind of say this at the end of “The SAT Scoring Process”, though admittedly it is not that clear.
