SAT self-study support thread

Okay all of you guys studying for the SAT on your own: here’s a support thread.

Support threads are popular among people working on long-term independent projects (say, people writing doctoral dissertations, books, etc.) The idea is that you can come here to post goals that you want others to help you keep, celebrate your daily or weekly accomplishments, or commiserate about the distraction you face.

The PURPOSE of the thread is to help you KEEP STUDYING by setting daily or weekly goals and then updating your community about them. For instance, you can post a goal, and then post later about how you did working toward your goal, and other people can celebrate with you if you made it or give you a hard time if you failed. It can be a very helpful way to use an online community for something other than procrastination.

I am not a high school kid anymore but I use support threads to help me stay focused on graduate work and I thought it might help some of you independent students out there to have one for your own use. Try it and see: sometimes it really helps!

Here is a sample (fake) post so you can see how it goes:

“Okay you guys, this afternoon I’m going to do a whole test in the Blue Book after school if it kills me. My goal is to get a 600/600/600.”

Then later you could write:

“Augh. Finished but missed the mark: 580 M/600 CR/640 W.”

Then somebody else might say:

"Hey, lotf629, don’t feel bad: you finished the test! Awesome!

“My goal for the week is to learn 20 words a day consistently. Anybody want to join me?”

Okay, enough fake posting from me. I am now going to work on my actual goal, which is a journal article.

I like the idea of this thread, but it might be hard to keep everything organized. I’ll be sure to pop in once in a while.

I self studied for the SATs… all three times I took them and for the subject tests still managed to get a 800 though in one section xD
