can someone please explain why the below is correct?

1) Oxytocin is the hormone that triggers uterine contractions during (labor, as well as) the preliminary contractions known as Braxton Hicks.

correct answer: a) labor, as well as
why isn’t it : labor, causing as well

by the way, what are the grammatical rules governing how to use as well as. when it is wrong/unnecessary?

2) The professor suggested that (those who wished) to attend the lecture next week be in the classroom 10 minutes earlier than usual.

no error. but why shouldn’t it be “those who wish”

3) Ancient scientists were among the first to investigate diseases, (although) they frequently attributed the causes to the anger of the gods.

no error
isn’t that an improper way to use although? when do you use commas, etc. with although? i always thought you used although at the beginning of the sentence, but how do you use it/ what are the rules when it’s in the middle of a sentence?

thanks!!

Oxytocin is the…that triggers…** X contractions** as well as ** Y contractions**.
Is this slightly easier to see why it’s correct?
I’ll get to the others one later on,brb.

ren the sat’er, that actualyl does help! i see why thats right now but why is the other option wrong? i’m kind of confused as to when its okay to have a independent clause and then a dependent clause (?) beginning with “causing” or any of the “ing” words

bump please!

There’s the verb “triggers”, why would you also need the verb “causing”? And “as well” either replaces the word “and” in the form “as well as” or goes at the end of the sentence. You should immediately notice how horribly wrong that second option sounds.

I would just like to state that I missed nothing on the writing section of practice test #7 other than 4 CONSECUTIVE questions on the sentence identification error portion. I am extremely mad because i’ve been averaging -2 for the past few practice tests, and this complete incompetence during a select portion of the writing section is just dreadful.

How would I go about rectifying this problem of missing consecutive questions? When I went back through the problems, I realized they were all stupid mistakes that should not have been made.
