SAT stuck between two dates

Hey everyone. I am planning to sign up for the SAT and two dates seem to be available: December 5th (85 days away) and January 23rd (138 days away). Now it seems like the obvious choice is January 23rd because it is farther away, and the more study time the better right? Well my mom thinks that I should go with December because I should extend my studying too long because it might be detrimental to my score. Also, I do not play a fall sport but I do a winter sport so I will be very busy starting from December, which means I will have all of the time to study for December 5th SAT but not as much quality time from December to January to study for January 23rd SAT. So any suggestions.

P.S. I am currently scoring a 2000 or so, and I hope to get at the very least a 2300. That being said, January or December?

Thanks for your time and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have mid-term exams in January.

If you are a Jr, then I would wait until closer to the end of your year- UNLESS you want to take the CURRENTLY DESIGNED SAT test.
Then you have only Dec or Jan.
The NEW SAT is given will be given from March 5 on . So If you want to wait and take the newly formatted SAT,
I’d suggest you take it in March, and plan on splitting up subject tests between May and / or June, after any AP tests in May. That way you can retake the SAT again, if need be, in Oct.

The more classes you have under your belt - the more you will know and the higher you will [ probably] score.

Ok thanks, but if I decide to take the one now, would you reccomend December or January

It up to you hon- I dont know your schedule.

I firmly believe that taking tests closer to the end of the school year will result in higher scores.
YMMV

ok ty @menloparkmom

Well, that answers your question. Take it in December.

ok. Is 80 or so days be enough to raise my score up to a 2300+ (from a 2000) or is that just wishful thinking. Thanks. @skieurope

Take it in December. It depends on what you do with those 80 days, it should be enough time if you use your time effectively.

So its possible? @3scoutsmom

Yes it’s possible but it depends on YOU. Do you have a plan? Time alone will not increase your score.

Do you have any good plans you reccomend? @3scoutsmom

You need a plan that works with what time and resources you have. You need to set aside a certain amount of time for SAT prep each day.You need to take practice tests and understand WHY your are missing the questions that you do. I don’t know your schedule or your resources.

ok thanks for the help! @3scoutsmom
