Hey guys,
I am applying to Cornell under the College of Arts and Sciences for Comp Sci. I read that SAT Subject Tests were required for Cornell but I performed super poorly (Chem - 640 and Math II -580, I know right) on them and don’t have time to take them again. My ACT was okay (33) and my weighted GPA is a 4.6 but I don’t know if my Subject Tests will ruin my chances. Please help.
Hello @serignediaw
Remember that these applications are reviewed holistically. Don’t get discouraged by the results of your test scores. I would say to evaluate your options. Perhaps give them a call and ask how this would affect your application.
As long as you have the academics in good standing, extracurriculars, and a well written personal statement, you should be on good track.
Without the intentions of worrying you, be aware that CAS is one of the most competitive schools at Cornell in terms of admissions.
@drrich CAS is NOT one of the most competitive at Cornell. The hotel school, Dyson and Engineering are more competitive.
While your SAT subject test scores are required by CAS, they are not very important parts of your application. While applying for Computer Science with a 13th percentile in Math II* might raise some eyebrows with the admissions committee, you can more than make up for it with the way you craft your application; your essays, EC’s, rec letters, etc.
As long as the score is not too much below Cornell’s average, a good demonstration of how well you fit at Cornell will be worth more than your test scores.
By the way, @DrRich, that chart is not very representative of Cornell’s admissions now. Maybe use http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/tableau_visual/admissions instead. They have data for 2017 for each college.
@drrich that is from 2012. Not sure what you are showing me. The Dyson is about a 3% acceptance. I know one of the schools is about 16%.
For me, I got a mediocre SAT1 score(1360), but a pretty good score on SAT2(790 for physics and 800 for math). I’m applying for Cornell engineering. I’m afraid my sat1 score will drag me down.
@serignediaw my sat ii’s are just as bad! I’m applying to CAS undecided––so so worried about these test scores!
On your other threads you mention wanting merit aid.
Can you pay for Cornell, because they don’t give merit aid…only need based aid.
