For those of you who’ve made 2300+, how did you study? Did you take whole practice tests everyday or just focused on individual sections? How many tests did you take before your scores began to improve?

Hi Sunshine,

I made 2300+ as an adult, so I don’t know if my methods will help you or not. I only took 1 or 2 full practice tests. Writing was not an issue for me, so I didn’t have to study too much for it. I did brush up on my reading by taking some timed reading sections. The biggest thing I did to improve in reading was to take apart the questions I missed. Why did I miss them? Was it one word? A phrase? Or did I completely misread the passage? It was usually something in the wording of the question, though, and I learned to be on the lookout for similar patterns.

Math was my weakness (and oddly is now my favorite part of the SAT). I did question after question, but I didn’t start improving until I stopped using high school and college math techniques and started studying the simpler ways to solve questions. For example, if there was a question that involved distance on the coordinate plane, I immediately relied on the distance formula. Eventually I realized that if I needed a formula, it was provided, and since the distance formula is not given, there is a faster solution. Once I learned to use the Pythagorean Theorem for these questions, my speed and accuracy increased. I learned these tips and shortcuts from prep books and internet websites.

Good luck!
