SAT = success?

I am worried about getting anything less than a 700 on my SATs. I don’t care if I get a 700, but does this mean I won’t do well at Yale if I get accepted? I want to make straight As at Yale. But, I got a 680 on my Bio-M.

Is this detrimental? I don’t want to retake because I will be away in October.

I think you have Yale-quality SAT scores. A 4.0 GPA at Yale is going to be difficult, particularly if you want to get involved.

I would suggest that you don’t tell your interviewer that you want to get a 4.0 as they’ll assume that you’re going to be studying nonstop. They want someone who will contribute to the campus.

Well, I want to be involved.

I’m not worried about a B at Yale, it’s a lot better than a B at any public university… but, I want to go to medical school, so I want a good GPA.

… it is POSSIBLE to maintain straight A’s at yale (okay, A’s and one or two A-'s), but it is very, very, VERY difficult. of my friends, only one (or two?) of them managed that this year.

yes, you need a very good GPA for med school, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. and besides, i guarantee that if you come to yale, you’ll find yourself so involved in student groups that you won’t want to study all the time to get a perfect GPA. i know i sure didn’t :stuck_out_tongue: and seriously, in my experience, SAT scores are not a very good predictor of how you’ll do academically at yale… the difference between a 680 and a 700 isn’t going to indicate the difference between “you’ll fail out!” and “you’ll have a perfect GPA all four years”

really, don’t worry about it. do what you love, study hard, and take it as it comes.

oh man. that’s great. im visiting Yale this summer… in a few weeks.

that’s reassuring news. :slight_smile: i don’t care about straight As, but I want to definitely maintain a GPA that will get me into the top medical schools. :)

Only worry about the 680 Bio SAT II if you want to go into biology or something else science-related. Since you want to be pre-med, I would retake. I had a score in the 600s (not pretty), but it didn’t hurt me because it wasn’t crucial to my intended major.

well, i know BIO. I am waiting for my bio AP test. I mastered that class and it was the hardest class I ever had. I know I could do better, so I might.

I’m prepping for the June SAT. It will depend on what I get. if I get a 680s+ on all sections, then I will take Biology and Math IIC in October.

vivaldi, thank you!

I had a 690 in SAT II Bio E in freshman year and got into Yale. My other scores were all in high 700’s though so read into it what you will.

Ditto that.
