SAT this June for Sophomore?

Just got an SAT test prep class in the mail from his high school, taught by one of the teachers, and a very reasonable price. S is a sophomore, but in higher level classes. He just had shoulder surgery, so thinking this may be a good time to take the class and get an SAT test done, as he hopes to be back on a spring AAU basketball team next year. Have you taken the SAT as a sophomore? Maybe this is typical in other places, but not in this area. Thanks.

I know lots of people who took their first SAT Test prior to their junior year (granted, I live in a region of the US where this is very common) and don’t regret it at all; a boy who graduated from my school a few years ago took his first SAT test in 7th grade, and ended up with an AMAZING score by the time applications were due.

If your son wants to proceed with the classes and he is interested in taking the June SAT Test, I say more power to him! :)

Most people in my city take the SAT early on in junior year. However, if your son feels ready by June, there’s no reason not to take it (barring financial concerns, of course).
